... to be a church that loves people and loves God in everything that we do.
... that people would 'love their neighbour' and develop a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We are a local church and want to contribute to the local hope!
... to serve the people of Kings Norton with love and passion, regardless of their background, and to help change the social and economic climate for the better.
What We Believe
The main bit...
When asked, Jesus had two high values which we try to follow. As individuals and as a community we try to 'love our neighbour' and 'love God' with all our heart and action.
A bit more detail...
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Saviour of the lost world.
About the Church
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. We believe that the local church is the hope of the world. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him and by making him known to the world by displaying his love and his transforming power.
We believe that all people were created in the image of God and are to have fellowship with each other and him. Through Humans seeking independence from God, our relationship with him has broken down and we have become separated from him. Like any parent would, God seeks to mend the relationship through the ongoing work of Jesus who creates a fantastic way-forward in life.
About the Christian Life
We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to God's word and by daily following Him, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as a final means of cancelling the separation between man and god. Every believer is on their own journey, and as they journey and become more like their Jesus-shaped unique design, they experience an abundance of life where freedom and joy are sustainable realities!
Southgate Family Church is led by Nick and Cristina Hoult who felt called by God to start a church and live on the 3-estates part of Kings Norton. Although not all-bad, this is a well known hot-spot for crime, drugs and violence. They believe a positive future is coming for the region as the reality of God’s love and power transform individual lives, enabling people to love and care for each other as they should, thus creating a rippling effect as each person’s transformation affects those around them.
Living on the estate with their four young children, they walk each day with the intention to ‘stop for the one' in front of them that needs the love of God that day, whoever they are. Humanly speaking, it could take years to transform an area like this one... except that as people have been ‘added to their number’ and have started loving those around them in the same way, a move of God has birthed. A move, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to transform and heal broken lives through Love.
